June 2007

Dana, Samuel and I just returned from our National Conference. About 260 people from all over Canada came together to find rest, realign, and re-energize. I had the opportunity to reconnect with friends I met at Summer Institute. More importantly, it was our family vacation too, well a vacation with a purpose. We got to connect with one family from Calgary really well. Their son Jayden and our son Samuel are close in age and played well together. We swapped back and forth taking in some of the sessions and taking care of Samuel. Dana and I were challenged by Alan Hirsch who wrote “The Forgotten Ways”. He has studied the church growth in China and gave valuable insight about the church grew. It was a new way of thinking about how to disciple. I am interested to dialog about these ideas with people more in the future.

The other significant part was seeing many Youth Unlimited/YFC workers credientalled. Two from Kawartha received this honour after an intensive few years of ministry and training. We had a big banquet together and then the ceremony. It was exciting to honour these leaders.

On Tuesday of this week, I had the opportunity to dialogue with our Reeve, Mr. Fearrey about the needs of young people in Haliburton. He was very supportive of the things I am passionate about and has the desire to see positive things for young people in Haliburton County. I shared my dream of a place for teenagers to hang out and be empowered to make a difference in life.

Lots of great stuff is happening at the Adult Education and Training Centre. We are able to use the school this summer for some of our programs. I am planning a couple of things for the summer. On Wed nights, I will be hosting Nooma Nights. Rob Bell has created an atmosphere through a DVD to get teens to begin to discuss about spiritual matters. We plan to hang out and shoot some pool then watch Nooma and talk about it. The second thing is Sports happening on Thurs nights in the park. It will be pick up sports and each night will be different. Summer will continue to be a place of connecting with students and continue to model Christ in all that we do and say.
