October 2007

I find so amazing how God uses people to meet our needs. On Sunday, Tim spoke at the United Church and after 3 ladies responded and want to volunteer at the Bridge. And last night, I recieved a call from a lady responding to one of our needs for the Bridge. She gave a large donation towards video game console and games. God is great. Each day, a new provision has been given. It is so much more that a program that Youth Unlimited offers. It is investment in the life of a youth who has unlimited potential. This week has been amazing to see what can be accomplished with a group of youth. I had the opportunity to work with 3-4 students in constructing a storage shed. It is a partnership thing. Youth Unlimited needed a shed for hockey nets and other sports equipment. So, someone donated the money and Emmerson Lumber gave us a deal. The youth that helped will be able to earn part of a math unit. It was a win-win. The shed is now mostly complete after two mornings of work. It was great to interact with the youth in this way.

We also, moved a coke cooler to the upstairs for the Bridge and it took 6 of us to manage it. But, in the end, the youth saw the progress on their soon-to-be hang out spot. I enjoy watching the students take interest. One student said this is a great thing that we are doing.

It is incredible what is happening and perfectly timed. In early September, space became available at the Adult Education and Learning Centre and we proceeded to come up with an agreement and began thinking through what we needed. We have been given lots of stuff for the Bridge already. A slate pool table, pop cooler, counter, a small TV, chairs & tables. God continues to provide.

I am have connecting lots with people these past few weeks. On Monday of this week, I went to an inter-agency coffee hour. It was great to meet others providing some sort of service in Haliburton County. There was great response from everyone. The need is huge!

I also chatted with some of the neighbours at the school and they are interested in what The Bridge and Youth Unlimited is doing. They are supportative.

Our launch date is Friday, Nov. 16th. And we are having training nights on Nov. 7th and 14th. If you are interested, send me an email jamie@youthunlimitedkaw.com.
